Paper Aeroplanes Official

From Monday!! (and actually already started in Cardiff…) you can get our first single, Safe Hands, for free on a CD at these lovely, unique independent cafes..when you spend over £10 with them.
Tracklisting:
1.Safe Hands2.Black Seeds3.Orange Lights Acoustic4.Cliche - live at St John’s Church
In an age where people are buying more and more online, where global chains are elbowing out true independents and where we want everything faster and ever more convenient… we wanted to slow things down a tad.
The idea started when tracks from our debut album got added to the Costa Coffee playlist. We had texts and emails from friends all over the country saying they’d heard us in Costa; but being added to the great wash of ubiquitous elevator muzak didn’t seem to introduce us to many new fans. Starbucks tried to start a music label and Caffe Nero have unplugged live events, but we just thought, what about the Indies? Our music, ethos and tastes are far more geared to those smaller, unique hidden gems and we wanted to play with that idea.
Its a simple concept. We’ve produced a batch of limited edition 4 track CDs with the details of their 12 favourite UK cafes on the back. Those cafes will give away the CDs, free with food purchases, and in return, we’ll promote the cafes to you guys and everyone in our networks.
Small businesses of different kinds sticking together.
The CD is completed with a new acoustic version of Bob Harris’ favourite Orange Lights and a live version of our debut single Cliche, which was recorded at our sell out gig in St John’s Church in Cardiff!
So what better excuse to go buy some tasty, freshly made grub and have an proper coffee?!
xx

So yes, Valentine’s Day was invented by evil, capitalist card makers and gift shops but this card doesn’t have to be about Valentines Day and when I saw a huge version of it in a shop window recently it reminded me of my lyrics to We Are Ghosts. Is that quite tragic?! I think this is a beautiful statement anyway….

Music from a previous life

Listening back the tracks that Rich and I first ever recorded, it’s fair to say that we were pretty melancholy. It’s also fair to say that with our forthcoming album, We Are Ghosts, we’ve reached the best balance between our melancholic and our optimistic sides. All the tracks that we made during our time as Halflight are now available to download from our Facebook Store for less than a few London pints or an over-priced Mojito!

Our very first review of We Are Ghosts. Wow. -

“I’ll confess that I don’t know anything about Paper Aeroplanes other than this one thing. They make heartwrenchingly beautiful music. Consistently……”  Marc Thomas, Journal Of Plastic. See link for more…

My First Love

“carved promises into apple trees for me”

Who was your first love?

The first boy I (thought I ) loved was Carl Chapman when I was 6 in Primary School. He was good at maths. I think he might still live back in Milford Haven. Anyway, I’m over it. Around that same time my best friend Rachel was told by another boy in our class that she was sexy. She had to go home and ask her Mum what it meant.

The song is about a mixture of memories….it’s not really about being 6yrs old. We definitely didn’t drink back then… not even in Milford. It’s just about wishing for the naivety and whole-heartedness of young love… before the cynicism and complications of real life made everything a little less shiny.

My First Love is the only track that’s currently on our US Album and will also be on the new We Are Ghosts ep. The lyrics are now up on the lyric page.
